Clear and Current Content about Mental Health
As a podcast dedicated to exploring the complex and dynamic world of mental health, “Bear in Mind” stands out for its commitment to delivering clear and current content to our audience. In each episode, our editorial board and collaboration team prepare the content by selecting topics, reviewing the script, and discussing potential guests to offer thoughtful and insightful perspectives on a wide range of subjects related to mental health.
Our mission is to promote access to mental health education by making science-based knowledge understandable to everyone through conversational language. Our ultimate goal is to collaborate to dissipate the stigma surrounding mental health disorders and facilitate access to care. We are committed to promoting equity, and dedicated to advancing social justice through accessible education, ensuring that our content is available to everyone regardless of their background. Through this mental health advocacy initiative, we hope to engage the community and work together to create an inclusive atmosphere that prioritizes mental health for all.
Meet the Board
Dr. Tracey M. Guthrie is the Program Director for the General Adult Psychiatry Residency at Brown University, the Vice Chair for Clinical Faculty Affairs and Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior. She also serves as an Assistant Dean for Diversity in the Division of Biology and Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Guthrie received her medical degree from the University of
Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.
She fled the cold winters
for the more temperate climate of New England and completed her Psychiatric Residency at Brown. Dr. Guthrie has been recognized for her dedication to teaching, equity, and inclusion. In her free time, she enjoys the healing sounds of jazz, the ocean, and the stillness of mountains.

Tracey Guthrie, MD
Originally from Brazil, Dr. Cosmo earned her M.D. from Faculdade de Medicina da Bahia, her M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Neurophysiology /Neuropsychiatry from Universidade Federal da Bahia, and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Harvard Medical School. Currently, she is chief resident in the General Psychiatry Program at Brown University in the NIMH R25-funded research training track.
Her research focuses on the physiological basis and applicability of neuromodulation techniques for neuropsychiatric disorders. In addition, Camila and her family have been Christian missionaries for nearly 20 years, advocating for equity and social justice. In her free time, she enjoys biking, reading, cooking, and gardening.

Dr. Alvaro Olivares received his medical degree from Universidad del Norte, in Colombia, and completed Adult Psychiatry Residency at Brown University. Dr. Olivares is the Unit chief of Kent County Memorial Hospital’s Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at Butler Hospital; Chief of the Cultural Psychiatry Program at Butler Hospital and Chief of the Outpatient Electroconvulsive Therapy service at Butler Hospital.
Dr. Olivares loves reading and walking.

Alvaro Olivares, MD
Dr. Laura Whiteley is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior and
the Associate Director of the Brown General Psychiatry Residency. Her research expertise and funding focuses on the utilization of mobile technology to improve and enhance behavioral interventions and treatment adherence.
She has received funding from the NIMH,
NICHD, and the
Lifespan/Tufts/Brown Center for AIDS Research (CFAR). In her free time, she enjoys traveling, sailing
and skiing with her husband and son.

Laura Whiteley, MD
Originally a Wisconsinite, Dr. Theyel earned his MD and PhD at the University of Chicago, where he conducted research on communication between thalamus and cortex. He went on to train at the General Psychiatry Program at Brown University, where he was on the NIMH R25 research track until graduating in 2016. His research currently focuses on novel brain cell activity that may be linked to neuropsychiatric disease, as well as how
transcranial magnetic stimulation, which is a cutting-edge treatment for depression, activates specific types of brain cells.
In his free time, you will find him reading, biking, kayaking, hiking, and finding new restaurants.

Dr. Jose Rengifo is currently Program Chief of Adult Partial Hospital Programs and Director of
Education in Patient Assessment Services at Butler Hospital. He completed medical school at Rush Medical College and Adult Psychiatry Residency at Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Rengifo is committed to graduate medical education and has an interest in treatment of bipolar disorder and
insomnia disorders.
He is an avid polyglot, now working on Japanese in his spare time.

Dr. Armond Collins is originally from Louisiana and earned his M.D. at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. Dr. Collins is now a third-year psychiatry resident with an interest in adult and young adult outpatient psychiatry.
Outside of clinical work, he enjoys reading, writing poetry, and finding hidden gem restaurants throughout Rhode Island.

Dr. Johnson grew up in Connecticut and attended undergraduate school at Middlebury College in VT. She subsequently worked as a research coordinator at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai for the Pediatric Mood & Anxiety Disorders Clinic and earned her M.D. from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, NY. Currently, she is in her final year of residency in the General Psychiatry
Program at Brown University. She will be attending child and adolescent fellowship training at UVM starting July 2023.
In her free time, she enjoys going on hikes with her dog, swimming, biking, and reading.

Amy Johnson, MD
William Cosmo is a seasoned Creative and Art Director with over 20 years of experience. He is the founder of Zerandesfry Creative Media and has worked on a range of projects, developing innovative marketing campaigns and designs.
He earned a degree in Social Communication and Advertising from the Catholic University of Salvador
Brazil, and holds an MBA from the Superior School of Marketing and Advertising in Sao Paulo, Brazil. In addition to his extensive experience as an audio and video producer and media manager, William is passionate about a missional life, serving as a church planter with his family for almost 20 years.
He is also a multi-instrumentalist, music producer, and enjoys exploring Massachusetts and Rhode Island on his bike in his leisure time.

Madison Pomerantz,
MD
Dr. Madison Pomerantz is a rising chief resident in the General Psychiatry Program at Brown University. She earned her undergraduate degree at
Washington University in St. Louis. Madison then attended medical school at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, and then found her way to Rhode Island for her psychiatry residency. Outside of work, Madison enjoys spending time with her family and friends, exploring Rhode Island, and finding great coffee.
Hannah Cohan,

Dr. Hannah Cohan is originally from Ridgewood, NJ, and received her M.D. at Penn State College of Medicine. Dr. Cohan is currently a
second-year Triple Board resident, training in pediatrics, child psychiatry, and adult psychiatry. She is particularly interested in pediatric anxiety conditions, including Selective Mutism. Outside of work, Hannah enjoys theater and exploring the restaurant scene in Providence.

Dr. Zoya Huda is originally from New York and earned her M.D and M.P.H at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. Dr. Huda is now a second-year
psychiatry resident with an interest in emergency and geriatric psychiatry. Outside of clinical work, she enjoys game nights with friends and family, going to the beach, and exploring new cafes.

Dr. Micah Duggins-Warf is delighted to be entering his fourth year in the Brown Psychiatry Residency and has numerous interests,
including forensic and emergency psychiatry. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his partner and their three kids, dog, and turtle.
Jared Au Yeung,
MD
Dr. Jared Au Yeung is a graduating psychiatry resident at Brown University. As an undergraduate at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County,
he was recognized as a Distinguished Scholar of Psychology. He attended medical school at Drexel University, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society and conferred the Van Buren O. Hammett Award for outstanding performance in psychiatry. He has an interest in treating people who are suffering from psychotic illnesses and severe mood disorders. He spends his free time examining the transference and countertransference between him and his cat Anchovy.
Matthew Howe,

Dr. Howe, a Rhode Island native, earned his M.D. and Ph.D. at the University of Texas McGovern Medical School. His research and clinical interests
include neuropsychiatry, geriatrics, and Alzheimer's disease.
Joanna Georgakas,
MD
Dr. Joanna Georgakas is a rising third year resident in the adult psychiatry program. She obtained her medical degree with a concentration in
medical education from Brown and undergraduate degree from Middlebury College where she majored in neuroscience and gender, sexuality and feminist studies. Dr. Georgakas is interested in neuropsychiatry, consult liaison psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, coffee, and spending time with friends and family.

Katie Liesener is the communications manager for the Brown University Department of Psychiatry & Human Behavior. Outside of
her career in communications, she has also been a journalist, college-level writing instructor, and live storyteller.
